Historical Vessels under Estrin and An Industry in Transition, lessons learned from accidents

Geplaatst op 03-03-2026  -  Categorie: Algemeen Openbaar

European Maritime Heritage convenes in Amsterdam this year for its General Assembly. The afternoon programme features two presentations (in English), followed by discussion, and is open to the public.

The first presentation is by Hendrik Boland on the certification of ‘new’ historical ships under the European Inland Waterway rules (ES-TRIN). Only recently — and many years after the introduction of a dedicated chapter in ES-TRIN for historical vessels — the first and, so far, only ship has successfully obtained a safety certificate under this framework.

The second presentation is by Paul van Ommen on accidents in the Dutch inland water sailing fleet, the investigations into the root causes, the recommendations of the Dutch Safety Board, and how the sector — in a broader sense — is now responding.
